GEN-300B Update #2: Early Bird Ending Soon!

Hello everyone,

This is Bruce from Layer Audio Design.

We would like to share a brief update on the development progress of the GEN amplifier.

Early Bird Pricing

The Early Bird pricing period will conclude next weekend, March 29.

After that date, the amplifier will return to its regular retail price. We sincerely appreciate the support from everyone who joined the project at this early stage.

High Gain / Low Gain Switch

After further evaluation and listening tests, we have decided to include a High Gain / Low Gain switch on the front panel.

This allows the amplifier to better accommodate a wider range of headphones — from highly sensitive designs to more demanding loads — while maintaining a stable operating range and a very low noise floor.

New Front Plate

Tube Development

We are currently in discussion with a tube manufacturer regarding the possibility of offering a dedicated upgraded tube option for the GEN amps.

The intention is to provide a tube that is carefully selected and optimized for the operating characteristics and sonic profile of this amplifier. More information will be shared once evaluation and testing progress further.

Glass Cover Design

We have also started designing a glass cover for the amplifier.

The goal is to provide protection for the tubes while preserving the visual presence of the 300B/2A3. Different ventilation approaches are currently being evaluated to ensure proper airflow and thermal stability.

Production Materials & Timeline

Orders for several production materials and components have now been placed.

Due to manufacturing lead times and international logistics, it will take approximately 1–1.5 months for all required parts to arrive. We are securing materials early in order to maintain production stability and control overall costs.

As a result, the estimated shipping schedule may be extended by approximately two weeks compared to the original projection.

Founder’s Edition

As a gesture of appreciation to those who supported the project from the very beginning, the first 20 amplifiers will be released as the Founder’s Edition.

These units represent the very first production run of the GEN amps — the first chapter in the life of this amplifier.

Each Founder’s Edition amplifier will feature a dedicated Founder’s Edition logo as well as a special wood front knob created exclusively for this edition.

Every unit will also be individually inspected during the initial production process.

The amplifier design, circuitry, and sonic performance remain identical across all production units.
