GEN-300B Development Update – Pushing the Design Further

Bruce here from Layer Audio Design.

Over the past week we reviewed several aspects of the GEN-300B and decided to further refine a few details before moving into the next stage of production. Because this amplifier is offered at a very accessible price point, we also felt it was important to push the design as far as possible within this budget and continue upgrading several elements where it matters most.

Furutech IEC inlet

The amplifier will now come standard with a Furutech gold-plated IEC inlet, selected for its reliability and overall build quality.

Custom chassis and upgraded power switch

We have also decided to move away from the off-the-shelf enclosure and instead produce a custom chassis with our manufacturing partner. While this increases our production cost, it allows us to maintain a higher level of consistency and finishing quality.

The overall internal layout will remain unchanged, but additional ventilation openings will be introduced to improve both heat dissipation and the overall visual balance of the design.

At the same time, the original power switch will be replaced by a heavy-duty silver-plated switch imported from Europe, chosen for its durability and sonic advantages.

Matte finish option

After reviewing several samples, we found that a matte finish complements the amplifier better than the brushed version originally planned. Because this finish requires an additional surface treatment process, it will be offered as a $30 optional upgrade.

For customers who placed early orders, this upgrade will be included at no additional cost as a thank-you for the early support.
